Bankstown Sunday Markets Temporarily Suspended Due To COVID-19

The Bankstown Harness Racing & Agricultural Society Committee announced on Tuesday 17th March, the Sunday Markets held on the grounds at the Bankstown Paceway would be suspended.

In order to comply with Section 7 of the Health Act 2010, it is a requirement that all public events with more than 500 people be cancelled in response to COVID-19.

The NSW Health Minister Brad Hazard has urged community events to follow the advice of the National and NSW Chief Medical Officer and as a result the Committee Chairman Stephen Wilson confirmed a decision to temporarily suspend the markets.

“We thank everyone for their patience and understanding but it was the only option in the current climate.  We will be in contact with the market stakeholders in due course and will look to resume normal activity as soon as it possible.”

“The committee understands the importance of the markets to both stallholders and customers and appreciates the situation will have a toll on many but unfortunately the decision was effectively removed from our hands.”
